Hiring of Consultants for Teacher Training on Child Health and Immunization
Project: Immunize Now: Reach the Unreached


1. Introduction

Khagarah Development Organization (KDO) is a non-profit, community-based organization committed to improving health, education, and socio-economic conditions in remote and underserved regions of Pakistan. KDO has expertise in designing, implementing, and analyzing large- and small-scale programs in the fields of Women Development, Child Protection, Livelihood & Community Development, Democracy & Governance, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Education.

With a strong local presence across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and a decade of community mobilization experience, KDO plays a vital role in strengthening public health systems and enhancing community resilience.

Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, is a global health partnership committed to increasing access to immunization in low-income countries. In collaboration with local partners, Gavi supports initiatives that ensure every child receives life-saving vaccines, especially in hard-to-reach areas.

As part of this global effort, KDO has partnered with MannionDaniels, an international development organization managing grants on behalf of Gavi, to implement the project titled “Immunize Now: Reach the Unreached.” This project aims to enhance routine immunization coverage and reduce vaccine hesitancy in two underserved districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Kohistan Lower and Kolai Palas.

One of the project’s key strategies is to build the capacity of school teachers as advocates and educators on child health and immunization, given their influential roles in communities.


2. Background

KDO signed an agreement with MannionDaniels to implement the project “Immunize Now: Reach the Unreached” in the districts of Lower Kohistan and Kolai Palas, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The primary objective is to improve immunization coverage in remote and underserved areas through targeted interventions. A critical activity under the project is the training of school teachers on child health and the benefits of immunization, ensuring integration of these topics into school health lessons.


3. About the Assignment

The goal of this assignment is to increase immunization coverage among zero-dose and under-immunized children in the most remote and climate-affected areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The project seeks to:

·         Ensure vaccine accessibility.

·         Address community hesitancy.

·         Build resilience in immunization services.

The assignment aligns with the Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) objectives and aims to strengthen collaboration between civil society organizations and local health systems.

Consultants will:

·         Develop training modules on child health and immunization.

·         Conduct 12 (^ male and 6 Female) training sessions (2 days each) for 300 teachers (25 per session).

·         Ensure participatory, adult-learning methods.


4. Objectives

The main objectives of this consultancy are to:

1.      Develop and deliver a structured training program on child health and immunization.

2.      Ensure integration of immunization content into school health lessons.

3.      Equip teachers with appropriate tools and materials to communicate immunization messages effectively.

4.      Promote gender sensitivity and inclusion throughout the training process.


5. Scope of Work

The consultant will be responsible for:

5.1 Curriculum and Material Development

·         Develop a culturally appropriate and context-specific training curriculum in Urdu.

·         Design teacher handbooks, presentations, and visual aids.

·         Align content with national health and education policies.

5.2 Training Delivery

·         Conduct 12 two-day training sessions (six each for male and female).

·         Train 300 teachers (25 participants per session).

·         Use participatory and interactive methods tailored for adult learners.

·         Promote inclusive participation, ensuring gender balance.

5.3 Monitoring and Evaluation

·         Design pre- and post-training assessments to measure knowledge gain.

·         Collect session-wise attendance, evaluation forms, and photos.

·         Submit a comprehensive final report including lessons learned and recommendations.

5.4 Coordination

·         Coordinate with KDO field staff for logistics and teacher mobilization.

·         Liaise with local education departments for scheduling.

·         Engage local health departments for technical support.


6. Deliverables

·         Detailed training curriculum and materials (digital and hard copies).

·         Assessment tools (pre- and post-training).

·         Delivery of 12 training sessions.

·         Final training report including:

o    Number of teachers trained (gender and location disaggregated).

o    Summary of assessment results.

o    Key findings and follow-up recommendations.

o    High-quality photographs and attendance records.


7. Duration

The consultancy will run for three months: June to August 2025. Training sessions will take place in Kohistan Lower and Kolai Palas.


8. Consultant Qualifications and Experience

·         Advanced degree in Public Health, Education, Social Sciences, or a related field.

·         Proven experience in health and education training design and facilitation.

·         Strong understanding of immunization and child health issues in Pakistan.

·         Experience working in remote or conflict-affected areas, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

·         Fluency in Urdu and Pashto; excellent communication skills.

·         Cultural sensitivity and familiarity with the Kohistan and Kolai Palas context.


9. Reporting & Supervision

The consultant(s) will report to the Project Coordinator, and coordinate closely with District Health Officers (DHOs), local education authorities, and other relevant stakeholders.
