Welcome to KHAGARAH Development Organization (KDO), a women-led, humanitarian organization devoted to fostering safe, equitable, and inclusive communities across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and beyond. Since our founding in June 2011, we have focused on creating opportunities and advocating for the rights of marginalized women and children. Through programs addressing gender-based violence (GBV), legal assistance, and access to essential services, we are building stronger communities where individuals can thrive with dignity and security.
Our Vision
We envision a society where women and children are protected, empowered, and given every opportunity to participate fully in their communities. KDO is committed to safeguarding the rights of vulnerable populations by ensuring access to education, legal aid, healthcare, and economic opportunities. Our work is rooted in the principles of social justice, resilience, and inclusivity, striving to make lasting change for women and children in underserved areas.
Our Impact
With a robust network of dedicated volunteers across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, KDO has reached thousands of individuals in remote and underserved areas. Our achievements span several key sectors, demonstrating our strengths and commitment to sustainable, community-driven change:
Education: KDO has provided educational support to over 18,500 children, including the establishment of 84 Accelerated Learning Centers for out-of-school girls. We’ve equipped 1,325 teachers with advanced pedagogical skills, and our educational resilience programs address dropout rates, absenteeism, and quality improvements in partnership with UNICEF, UNHCR, and other international organizations.
Women’s Empowerment: Our economic empowerment programs for women focus on skill-building and small enterprise support, creating pathways for self-reliance. Through initiatives in Nowshera and collaborations with local women-led groups, we are driving women’s participation in the workforce and building sustainable income opportunities.
Legal Aid and Access to Services: KDO offers essential legal assistance to vulnerable groups, including refugees, providing access to vital services in education, health, and livelihoods. Our outreach initiatives connect marginalized individuals to resources, while our partnerships with local legal aid providers strengthen our impact in the field of human rights.
Gender-Based Violence (GBV): Through awareness programs, safe spaces, and support services, KDO addresses GBV at both community and institutional levels. Our team provides survivors with counseling, referrals, and rehabilitation resources to promote safety and healing, empowering them to reclaim their lives.
Disaster Risk Reduction and Community Resilience: Our disaster preparedness programs have helped communities build resilience against floods, earthquakes, and other natural disasters. By collaborating with local authorities and training community-based teams, we support communities in developing effective risk reduction and emergency response strategies.
Health and Sanitation: Partnering with organizations like WaterAid, KDO has improved access to clean drinking water and sanitation facilities for the urban poor in different areas. Through these efforts, we aim to reduce waterborne diseases and promote healthier living environments for vulnerable populations.
Volunteer Network and Community Outreach: With an extensive volunteer network across KP, KDO mobilizes communities for social campaigns, educational outreach, and resource distribution, creating a powerful support system that amplifies our reach and effectiveness. Our volunteers play a critical role in implementing initiatives that enhance community awareness and foster local engagement.
KDO’s strong linkages with government bodies, UN agencies, INGOs, and academic institutions enable us to continually expand our outreach and impact. Together, with our partners and community stakeholders, we work towards a brighter, more equitable future for all.
Our Approach
Our approach emphasizes collaboration and community-driven solutions to complex social issues. Working alongside local community groups, government agencies, and international partners, KDO provides targeted support to individuals facing gender-based violence and barriers to basic services. By integrating legal aid and protective services, we enable individuals to reclaim their rights and build secure, self-sufficient lives. We actively engage in strengthening community awareness and capacity-building to ensure sustainable, locally-led change.
